Here's an Identity poem in the form of a list of "I am ...." statements, done as an assignment in Grade 11 by Guru Seva Singh:
I am the sailor looking at the horizon
I am the desert at night
I am 3 races
I am 2 countries
I am 1 religion
I am none racism
I am a veg "torta" with everything in it
I am the hand that pounds one's back
I am the hour of the day in which one drinks tea
I am a smile
I am the sailor looking at the horizon
I am the desert at night
I am 3 races
I am 2 countries
I am 1 religion
I am none racism
I am a veg "torta" with everything in it
I am the hand that pounds one's back
I am the hour of the day in which one drinks tea
I am a smile

I love your poems, your stories, and sculptures. It is a joy to see you all exploring the world of art. I was one of those who early in life was told I was "not creative" and only in the last few years have I thrown that label off and begun to write. I am inspired by you all and will visit your site often. I also invite you to submit your stories and poems to a blog that Siri Ved Kaur (Sat Amrit's mom) and I recently started called True Tales at www.ourtruetales.com. I also have a blog about poetry at www.poetryevolution.com so come visit and share your thoughts and your writing. Sat Nam and blessings to you all AND your inspiring teachers. Hari Bhajan Kaur (LA)
